A new book featuring illustrations of iconic hip-hop artists is set for release on 13th October.

Egostrip Book 1, published by Velocity Press, will feature 138 illustrations of pioneering artists from hip-hop’s golden era, including De La Soul, Madlib, Cypress Hill, MF DOOM, Mobb Deep, DJ Premier, J DIllaThe Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Beastie Boys.

The collection compiles illustrations by NYC-based multidisciplinary artist, Dan Lish, from the world of hip-hop and beyond, which have previously only been available individually via his shop. Lish has spent the last 25 years working on a broad spectrum of entertainment mediums including comic and book illustrations, video game concept drawings, and album cover art.

Egostrip Book 1 is currently available for pre-order via Velocity Press prior to its official release in October. The book is also available as a limited edition bundle with an exclusive art print, with the first 50 bundle orders receiving a free A3 poster of Dan Lish’s illustrations in the 2021 book, Bedroom Beats & B-Sides.

Velocity Press has also announced a new independent print market for publishers, bookshops and artists connected to electronic music culture. The inaugural event – featuring stallholders including Repeater Books, Disco Pogo, and the Museum of Youth Culture – will take place at All My Friends in Hackney Wick on 5th August, and offer a curated selection of books, zines, prints, records, and merchandise. Find out more about the market here.

Velocity Press owner, Colin Steven said: “I’ve been to a few [markets] over the years but never one dedicated to print for electronic music culture. I know so many like-minded publishers, shops and artists who feel the same way. The event celebrates the spirit of independence, highlighting the incredible range of talent within the industry.”
