Berlin-based DJ and producer Budakid has invited a cast of rising names to reimagine his April single, ‘Milestones’, for a new release via Exploited. Listen to South Korea-born, Germany-based Shubostar’s remix below.

Originally surfacing on a two-tracker earlier this year, ‘Milestones’ is the latest in a slew of joyful jams from Netherlands-born Budakid, AKA Kevin Huizing. With expansive production and ‘80s pop vocal stylings, it’s also a stellar canvas for the remix treatment, especially in the nimble hands of Shubostar, who imbues her own colourful disco slant.

Across an eight-minutes rework, she pushes the signature synth-house of Budakid’s original mix to an epic, celestial peak packed with heavily reverbed snares and a flurry of ascending arpeggios.

Speaking on the track, Shubostar said: “The vocal sounds like a chant or gospel which gave me an idea to make this remix a beautiful high frequency track. After making simple arpeggios, everything went fast. Lead melodies came out immediately, I just needed to add more elements like FX and vocal effects.”

While the remix marks her first outing via Exploited, Shubostar is no stranger to killer imprints, releasing cosmic cuts via Frankfurt’s Live At Robert Johnson, Permanent Vacation, and Internasjnoal, before forming her own Uju Records in 2019 in collaboration with Korean painter, Daryung King. Earlier this year, her impressive handiwork earned Shubostar a spot as one of DJ Mag's Artists To Watch in 2023.

Elsewhere on the EP, London duo Make A Dance serve up two ‘Milestones’ remixes of their own, including a deeper cut packed with Latin snare patterns and heady bleep riffs, and a suitably wobbly ‘Deep Acid Mix’. Rounding off the release will be rising Dutchman Milio (Atomnation and formerly one part of Tunnelvisions), who offers his own tripped-out take, fit with modulating acid lines and an off-beat bass bounce.

‘Milestones (Shubostar Remix)’ will be released on 9th June. Pre-order it here.
