Mr Beatnick will release a new album, ‘Joy In Variation’, this week. Listen to ‘Wave Cascade’ below.

The respected London DJ, producer, longstanding NTS resident and Mythstery Records label boss’ third album is an aptly-titled eight-tracker. Produced mostly using an MPC sampler and modular system, he draws influence from hip-hop production techniques to create a pick n mix suite that touches on velvety deep house, cosmic broken beat and Balearic breeze, with a lush cover of Tangerine Dream’s ‘Love On A Real Train’ added in at the end for good measure.

Warm synth arpeggios, shuffling beats and crunchy – occasionally acidic – basslines pervade these tracks, and demonstrate the versatility that’s always been at the heart of Mr Beatnick’s output, from early tracks like ‘Ice Cream Strut’ to regular appearances on Don’t Be Afraid with EPs including ‘Formed in the Stance’

‘Wave Cascade’ is a beachside Balearic doozy; splashes of synthesised bass and chiming pianos pour over its low tempo percussion, stirred together like a luminous cocktail. Pop your shades on, find your nearest sunset and pretend you’re in Café del Mar in 1995.

‘Joy In Variation’ is out this Friday 28th April. Pre-order it here.
