Premiere: rumu ‘Critical Wass’

rumu returns to Scuffed Recordings this month with the ‘Wightman Wibble’ EP. Listen to ‘Critical Wass’ below.

The North London DJ and producer’s solo debut for the label follows an appearance on the ‘Scuffed Presents 007’ compilation last year, and finds him weaving capillaries of UK club music into a heady dancefloor concoction. Across three tracks, rumu takes nimble breaks and garage beats and injects them with thick, wobbly bass and space-age sound designs. Drawing influences from his Mauritian heritage, the EP's closing track, 'Ravanne', features the percussive instrument of the same name, which is prominently used in the country's Sega music style.

rumu is developing a personalised sound that fits snuggly into the Scuffed catalogue, but feels entirely his own. With track support coming from the likes of Ben UFO, Logic1000 and Raji Rags, it’s a technique that’s clearly working.

‘Wightman Wibble’  lands on 25th November. Pre-order it here
