‘Synth Swap’ service for kit rental launches in Berlin

A new music gear exchange service, Synth Swap, has launched in Berlin.

The platform and community rental marketplace has been created to enable musicians to safely rent synthesizers and other gear like drum machines and DJ equipment via their in-house service. Users are also able to lend out their equipment through the service and charge a fee. The platform takes 25% of the rental fee and synth owners keep 75%.

In a statement on the Synth Swap website, Synth Swap founders Thomas Davies and Miika Paakkinen said: "We were dreaming of a service that would provide access to all of the instruments and music gear one could want without the need to buy it all. A community of musicians sharing with one another, creating local ecosystems. Then we stopped dreaming and started building."

They added: "Our goal is to build a platform where inspiring devices are just a click away and where you can make money from your gear whenever you don’t need it. We’ve also made the experience safe and secure for you to use with our insurance and security solutions."

Rentals on Synth Swap can be for as long or short as you like and the service can insure all equipment that is rented out to others. While the service is currently only available for users in Berlin, Davies and Paakkinen hope to expand the idea to other cities if it proves popular.
